Parish Nurse

In the fall of 2004 SMOS received a grant to start a parish nurse ministry in the parish. Under the grant a registered nurse is available ten hours per week to be in contact with parishioners who are reported to be ill or in the hospital, but especially with senior (60 years +) members of our parish. Since then the parish nurse has provided information through the Sunday bulletin, has offered monthly blood pressure screenings after each of the weekend Masses, called our the senior members of the parish, visited all the sick members of the parish when reported to the rectory, and so on. The parish nurse is assisted by a small group of parishioners called the Health Cabinet which advises her on desired services and priorities. The work of the parish nurse is supervised by the Deaconess Parish Nurse Ministries. (Our parish nurse also represents the parish with South Grand Senior Ministry.)
