The mission of the Social Justice Ministry is "to lovingly and prayerfully initiate, support and promote activities that challenge the SMOS community to faithfully grow in and respond to the call to social justice, especially as proclaimed in the Gospels and Catholic Social Teaching." Begun in the fall of 2003, SJM has offered educational programs on Faithful Citizenship, Catholic Social Teaching 101, and Grocery Strike/Labor Issues, and provided informational materials in conjunction with these programs. It has arranged for Fair Trade Coffee to be used at the Sunday afterMass socials in the parish hall. It organized a meeting of representatives of parish social justice ministries/committees from throughout the diocese. It publishes a monthly newsletter, JUSTICE ROCKS!, that is made available to all parishioners. Members meet monthly.
