The church is the visible presence of Christ in the world when, among other things, it worships the Triune God. Leitourgia, the Greek source word for Liturgy, literally means "the work of the people". In ancient Greek cultures, the word was used to describe the cooperation on the part of all citizens to make the society function.
In our Church, the meaning of this word is similar: liturgy is the “work” that all Christians do to make their tradition, beliefs, and faith function in the world and in their lives. It is within liturgy that we are truly church - it is where we become the Body of Christ.
