Conference Mission and Purpose
"Called by baptism and inspired by Gospel values, the members of the society of St. Vincent De Paul seek to grow spiritually by serving the needy and suffering in a spirit of justice and charity"

The Saint Margaret of Scotland Conference of St.Vincent De Paul serves the friends and neighbors in need within our parish boundary with financial, material, and spiritual support while at the same time growing closer in our own personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

The Saint Margaret of Scotland Conference of St. Vincent De Paul assists an average of fifty families each month with financial assistance for utilities, rent, furniture, clothing, medical expenses, funeral assistance, and tuition; material assistance with food, cleaning, paper, and personal hygiene items; and spiritual support through prayer and personal interaction.

Conference Service Opportunities
The SMOS SVDP conference provides a multitude of opportunities for you to put Christ’s Gospel call of service to others into action. Whether you have just an hour or two a month, or even on a less regular basis, there is still an opportunity to serve.

Telephone Hotline

Time Required: Generally works a two-hour shift between 9:00 AM and Noon, Monday through Saturday, or in the evening if desirable.

Home Visits
Description: A pair of Conference Members visit a client in their home to bring food and other items, confirm information given to the hotline volunteer, and bring a message of hope and love from our parish.
Time Required: An average time commitment of one hour every other week on a routine day and time that is convenient to you and your home visit partner.

Gathering Place

Coats and Costumes, and Jesse Giving Tree Events

Time Required: As much time as you can spare during these seasonal events. There’s no minimum or maximum.

Fundraising Events
Description: Another great opportunity to plan fun-and-fund raising events to assist the conference in raising the financial resources to support its work.
Time Required: Again, it’s up to you and your personal schedule. There are generally two large events - a Mardi Gras Party just before Lent and an event marking the Feast Day of St. Vincent De Paul in late September referred to as the "Big Night". Smaller events include soup suppers, back to school cookouts, butterbraid coffee cake sales, Easter egg hunt, etc.
Conference Meetings
The Conference generally meets on the First Sunday of each month (unless the first Sunday falls on a holiday weekend, then the second Sunday), 8:50 AM to 9:55 AM in the SVDP office at 2213 39th Street.
