A New Week – November 2, 2025

The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls’ Day)

by Fr. John Vien, Pastor

~ As we enter the month of November, we Catholics keep two great feasts: All Saints Day and All Souls Day. These days remind us of all those men and women who have gone before us in faith: all the holy men, women, and children who are with the Lord in heaven (All Saints) and all those who have died who rest in the mercy of God (All Souls). We give thanks that those who have gone before us have given us an example of faith through their legacy. Remembering those who have gone before us should prompt us to consider those who will come after us, who will benefit from our legacy. Are you living your Catholic faith so as to be an inspiration to your children, grandchildren, and those who will come after you?

This weekend, our parish joins other Catholic parishes across the Archdiocese of Saint Louis in celebrating Legacy Sunday, a special opportunity to reflect on how we can help ensure the faith we cherish today is passed on to future generations.

Legacy Sunday is not a fundraiser; it is an educational initiative designed to help us understand the value and impact of planned giving, which is often times a gift from your will or estate. Whether it’s remembering our parish in your will, naming the parish as a beneficiary, or exploring other forms of planned gifts, these thoughtful acts of selfless generosity will make a lasting difference in the life of the Church.

Just as we are blessed today by the sacrifices of those who came before us, we are called to be stewards for those who will follow. Planned giving is one way we can express gratitude, leave a legacy of faith, and support the mission of our parish for generations to come.

At the Masses this weekend, you’ll hear more about how planned gifts can support our parish, maintain our sacred space, and uplift the faith of future Catholics. There is no second collection this weekend, and no big ask or sign-up. We simply request that you prayerfully consider ways to continue your support of our parish, so that your legacy can continue to inspire future generations of St. Margaret of Scotland parishioners. As you make plans for your estate and work on your will or trust, please consider making St. Margaret of Scotland a beneficiary of your generosity.

Please pray about your legacy and join us in embracing this beautiful opportunity to build a bridge between past, present, and future:

Heavenly Father,
On this Legacy Sunday, we remember with gratitude the faithful souls who came before us, parents, grandparents, religious and lay, who gave of themselves so we might know You.
We honor their sacrifices: long hours in prayer, humble offerings of love, churches built by hand, and the courage to carry their faith through hardship and persecution.
Because of their devotion, we walk a path made firm by their witness.
Lord, may we be worthy of their legacy.
Inspire us to live generously, give sacrificially, and plant seeds of faith for those who come after us.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May their memory live in our hearts and bear fruit in Your Church.
Amen.
