It was a spook-tacular Saturday afternoon for our neighbors! The Coats and Costumes Party was a great success and a fun-filled afternoon for the kids and their parents. All kids received a new winter coat and Halloween costume. Many heartfelt thanks were heard as families left the event with their decorated Halloween gift bags filled with cookies, Halloween trinkets, fruit, a mini pumpkin, a toothbrush/toothpaste as well as a handful of candy.
St. Vincent de Paul Society hosted the party which included neighbors from Isaiah 58 Ministries and the SMOS SVDP Conference. A total of 19 families were invited which included 43 kids from the age of 1-12 years old. Two families were unable to attend due to their kid’s illness, but they will be able to pick up their coats at Isaiah 58 during the week.
A special thanks to ALL volunteers who made this event possible. This includes those who helped with all tasks from set-up to clean up and everything in between! The Conference was over the top in donations, not only with coats and costumes and cash donations, but baked goods, pizza, fruits to go with the pizza, little trinkets for raffle giveaways as well as candies and pumpkins.
SMOS School was wonderful in donating coats and costumes also! Two SMOS students, Naomi and Lucy, did a fantastic job with face painting and helping wherever they could. Also, Tilly, who is a Nerinx sophomore, was a great “fill in helper” with costume fittings, the registration table and wherever she was needed. Their help made a huge difference! Special thanks to Angela Faul who organized the craft tables for the kids. Some of the parents even joined in with the craft making of a “witches brew mini kettle” and little Halloween creatures!
Again, St. Vincent de Paul wishes to say thanks to all who contributed and were a part of bringing back this worthwhile event! It was a fun and happy afternoon for our neighbors! Happy Halloween to all!
