Weekly News From St. Margaret of Scotland School
~ As all of you are aware, our country has experienced another tragedy in the form of a mass shooting event at a Catholic School on August 27th. This particular event hits very close to home as it happened at a Catholic parish School during an all-school Mass. This is an unimaginable tragedy that has, rightly, shaken us to our core. Coincidentally, this tragic event happened during our ‘SMART Week’, a week that we taught our children about gun safety.
Because we rely on our Catholic faith in times of sorrow, we joined other Catholic schools in the Archdiocese in holding a prayer service for the students, teachers, and parents involved in the shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minnesota. Not only can we pray for those this has affected, but we can also act. St. Margaret of Scotland Parish has an active committee – Gun Sense: For the Common Good – which is part of our Living Justice Ministries. If you are interested in becoming part of the Gun Sense committee, I encourage you to seek them out.
When these tragedies happen, it is always an opportunity to look at our safety procedures to see what we can do to make our students and teachers safer. While we do already have security measures in place for all-school Masses, we will be reviewing our Mass procedures and looking to address ways we can make our school Masses safer. We have been diligent over the past several years to address safety issues at St. Margaret of Scotland. Know that the safety of our students is our top priority.
As always, thank you for your continued support of our mission – to embody the example of St. Margaret of Scotland by focusing on justice and service.
Throughout the school year, we present an article in the bulletin each week providing updates from St. Margaret’s School, written by a member of our school staff.
