Off To A Good Start!
~ The beginning of the school year has been a whirlwind of activity. The students aren’t the only ones who have a lot to learn! St. Margaret of Scotland School is a very busy and wonderful place to be. We had a wonderful opportunity to learn about another faith tradition with Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Mrs. Jenny Hill and her third-grade son helped our Diversity Council students celebrate the Jewish New Year by distributing apples and honey during lunchtime. And Hugo demonstrated playing the Shofar for everyone. He is truly talented! Both students and teachers were very impressed with his skill and knowledge of this ancient instrument.
We will be reconvening our “Faith Families” in October. This is a great opportunity to form small faith communities with students divided into groups from Kindergarten through Eighth Grade. Our first get-together will be just before All Saints and All Souls Days. So we will take some time to do activities that help learn about saints we know and the kind of saints we hope to become. Our seventh graders will be attending the Archdiocesan Youth Ministry’s Middle School Summit at the Touhill Center with about 1500 middle school students from other schools in the Archdiocese. It will be a day of fun and faith-building for our seventh graders preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation this year. And speaking of sacraments, our second grade students are preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation on December 6.
Finally, we will be inviting our fifth-grade students to join the sixth through eighth grade as altar servers. If your family has a student who doesn’t attend St. Margaret’s but is interested in becoming a server, please let me know. We will be happy to have them join this ministry.
Throughout the year, we present an article in the bulletin each week on a variety of topics, written by a member of our Parish staff or ministries on a rotating basis.
