This year the St. Margaret of Scotland community has several events planned for Veterans Day. These activities are designed to honor those who have served in our Nation’s Armed Forces and to share themes of service, leadership and character with our school students.
Students in all grades will be doing a service project for Greater St. Louis Honor Flight. The Honor Flight Network is a national nonprofit organization comprised of independent hubs working together to achieve the Honor Flight mission, which is to celebrate America’s veterans by inviting them to share in a day of honor at our nation’s memorials in Washington, D.C.
Children in lower grades will create crafts that show their appreciation for Veterans and their service. Upper grade students will write letters thanking veterans. The letters and posters will be shared as part of “mail call” and “welcome home” during an upcoming honor flight. For more information on this charity please see their website or take a look at their Facebook Page.
On Veterans Day, November 11th, the school will host an assembly presentation by Chris Randall, from the Travis Manion Foundation. This event will include a color guard presentation by Boy Scout Troop 110. Chris’ presentation will focus on service, character and leadership and how our school students can live these principles in their daily lives. Chris is a former U.S. Marine, St. Louis County Police Officer, and is now actively engaged in the St. Louis Community through the Travis Manion Foundation and multiple other charities. The mission of the Travis Manion Foundation is to empower veterans and families of fallen heroes to develop character in future generations.

Also, as part of the school’s Veteran’s Day celebration, 8th Grader Meredith Lederle has partnered with Forces For Food in Jefferson Barracks for her Eagle Scout project to collect canned/boxed food, cleaning supplies and toiletries. Forces for Food hands out 150 boxes a month to veterans and their families who are in need. Students that bring in items will be able to dress out of uniform on Friday, November 8, 2024. See flyer below.
And lastly, the School will be honoring those from our parish who have served at a special Veterans Mass – they invite all veterans and their families of our parish and school communities to our 8:15am All-School Mass on Wednesday, November 13th, 2024. Click on the link and see the flyer below for details. We ask all veterans and their family/friends to please RSVP so that we can accommodate seating for everyone.
Please be sure to talk with your student about these events and ways they can honor our veterans by living lives of service!
