Saints Alive!

Sr. Mary Mannequin – is that you?!  And how do you know Deacon Dominick?!

This year, we’ve been blessed at St. Margaret of Scotland to have Deacon Dominick and holy friends teaching an elective on the saints entitled “Saints: Diversity in Holiness”.  On this particular day, St. Jane de Chantal was the Saint of Study and Prayer.  The students learned some incredible things about her: she had been married, she had 6 children, and her husband died in an accidental shooting by his best friend while hunting.  Can you imagine? Her spiritual guide became St. Francis de Sales, and the two began the Visitation Order and so much more!!

Do you know that holy does not mean becoming boring or two-dimensional – a mere image in stained glass?  No! To be holy is to be fully alive! It means to wholly actualize the incredible, unique gifts, passion, and love that God has given specifically to each one of us and to make use of them for the service of God and neighbor. Learning about the Great Cloud of Witnesses, our Saints, and how individual and unique each one is, allows our students to see their own faces within these followers of Jesus.  That they too, like all of us, are called to be a saint – holy, and FULLY ALIVE in Jesus!  Maybe another 125 years from now, SMOS students will be learning about the saints we’ve become!!  Saints Alive!

Each week, we will be highlighting the amazing and wonderful things that are happening in our classrooms and grade levels at St. Margaret of Scotland School. We are very proud of the work our teachers do with our students and are amazed by what happens at SMOS. Our goal is to share more about the hidden gem that is St. Margaret’s.
