August 20, 2020 Return to Learn Update

Dear St. Margaret of Scotland,

We love you! We miss you! We can’t wait to see you on Monday!

Attention all learners! Hybrid learners? Yes! Full-time virtual learners? Yes, you too! Each teacher will send a Back-to-School welcome and orientation message with video to his or her class through Fast-Direct or email. These messages will explain what to expect the first few days of school and offer a sample daily schedule.  Teachers will also be reaching out with login and password information for Google Classrooms and explain anything else we ought to know. For virtual learners, each grade level teaching team has constructed an individualized learning plan for their grade level students. More information coming your way soon. Keep an eye out for these teacher welcome and orientation videos!

Attention students coming back to school for in-person learning! BEFORE leaving for school, please do your self-check screening. It might be hard to remember at first, but soon it will just be part of your regular morning routine.  Covid 19 Daily Checklist  Remember that all supplies are not needed on the first day of school- space it out!

A responsible adult MUST be with students at drop off in the event the student needs to return home. Students can still ride bikes, scooters, or walk, as long as they arrive with an adult who waits onsite until all students in their charge have entered the buildings.

We have expanded arrival time from 7:20-7:50am. Specialty teachers, assistant teachers, and administrators will be on the blacktop to greet and screen students. After screening, if all is clear, students will receive a sticker and will enter school through their designated doors. The doors will be clearly marked and an adult will be at each door to double check for those “all clear” stickers. From there children head straight to their classroom where teachers will greet them. Parents, caregivers and younger siblings cannot congregate on the school grounds after drop off or at dismissal.

  • 6th, 7th, 8th – Purcell Hall Entrance
  • 4th, 5th – Faith Hall Main Door Entrance
  • Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd – Entrance of St. Joseph on school parking lot
  • Preschool – Lawrence Avenue doors

Please remember to pack a lunch and water for your children. There is no hot lunch this year and communal water fountains are all turned off as recommended by the CDC. Because we haven’t shared full details of allergy restrictions for all children in each cohort, please refrain from bringing containing peanuts to school for the first week. Your teacher will share more information.

Dismissal is at 3:00pm.  Independent walkers, who have parent permission, will be dismissed first.  Please encourage your children to connect with each other at a designated place on the playground before walking home.  Adults coming through the circle drive or adults that are walking will have their family names called over a walkie-talkie.  Don’t forget your car sign from Packet Day!  Students will then be released from their classrooms.  Preschool children with older siblings may get picked up from their classroom by those siblings and walked outside.  For other preschool children, your homeroom teacher will message specific pickup information and instructions.

A Word about Technology. We have been so fortunate to receive Kemper Foundation and PTA support to allow the school to provide individual e-learning devices for each student in grades K-8. Our most recent communication from the distributor estimates we will receive the tech devices by the end of August. We are sorry for the delay and wish we could get those devices in everyone’s hands sooner!

For now, please access full-time and hybrid virtual school learning through your own home devices. If you do not have a device for your child or children, we can provide a laptop for your use.  Please email Chris Stephens at cstephens@stmargaretstl.org if you need to pick up a device.

If you have specific questions about setting up your device, internet access or other technology needs, please contact SMOStechsupport@stmargaretstl.org

If you haven’t already, please take the time to read carefully through our full Return to Learn Plan. https://www.stmargaretstl.org/school/returntolearn/ before school starts on Monday.

Our team has been hard at work answering all of the questions you’ve submitted to us.

If you have additional questions, please SUBMIT YOUR QUESTIONS HERE and we will answer them as soon as possible. Please note, these questions are submitted anonymously so you will not get a response, rather, your question will be added to the FAQs when appropriate.

I hope that you will keep all of the St. Margaret of Scotland teachers and staff in your prayers as we continue to prepare for your arrival, electronically and in person, on Monday! We begin and end each meeting with a prayer for your health and safety and we are so excited to begin this learning year together with you.

St. Margaret of Scotland, pray for us!

Ms. Burke, Assistant Principal
