St. Margaret of Scotland Families:
As all of you are aware, our country has experienced another tragedy in the form of a mass shooting event. This particular event hits very close to home as it happened at a Catholic parish School during an all-school Mass. This is an unimaginable tragedy that has, rightly, shaken us to our core. Thankfully, we have our Catholic faith to lean on during difficult times. Not only can we pray for those this has affected, and especially for the repose of the souls of the children who died, but we can also act. St. Margaret of Scotland Parish has an active committee – Gun Sense: For the Common Good – which is part of our Living Justice Ministries. Just this week, they are organizing and implementing programming in our school about Gun Safety. We are also holding a prayer service this Friday to pray for the victims of Gun Violence and specifically those involved in the shooting at Annunciation Catholic School. If you are interested in becoming part of the Gun Sense committee, I encourage you to attend our Be SMART parent presentation tonight in the school cafeteria at 7:00pm.
When these tragedies happen, it is always an opportunity to look at our safety procedures to see what we can do to make our students and teachers safer. While we do already have security measures in place for all-school Masses, we will be reviewing our Mass procedures and looking to address ways we can make our school Masses safer. We have worked diligently the past several years to address safety issues at St. Margaret of Scotland. Know that the safety of your children is our top priority.
As always, thank you for your continued support of our mission – to embody the example of St. Margaret of Scotland by focusing on justice and service.
God Bless,
Patrick Holley
