Teens Becoming Catholic

One of the greatest parts of my job here at SMOS is that I get to walk with all of our students on their individual journeys, no matter whether they are Catholic or not.  I have been approached by students wanting to become Catholic every year that I have worked here, and I consider it a true gift to hear about how these students come to know and experience God.

I came back from maternity leave last fall knowing that I had two students interested in becoming Catholic.  But upon returning, I touched base with Ruth Pera, our Faith Formation Coordinator, and learned that there were actually three other school families who had reached out to her about becoming Catholic. Given that all of these students were teens (four in total), we wanted to give them the experience of what a faith community can look and feel like.

We have met together several times over the last few months to talk about what it means to be Catholic.  We have talked about everything from how to use a Bible to what it means for Christ to be truly present in the Eucharist.  My own faith is bolstered significantly when I get to hear them process their understanding of the faith aloud.

If you are in need of a boost in faith, or even if you just want to come and support some of our students, I invite you to join us at the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday beginning at 8:00pm.  There you will be able to walk with Penelope (7th), Evan (7th), Jeremani (8th), and Jameson (SMOS alum) as they enter the Church.

What a gift it is to see that our mission here at SMOS, to go and make disciples, is coming to fruition right before our eyes!
