Hymn: Saint Margaret of Scotland School Anthem

Saint Margaret of Scotland, blest patron of our school,
As a Christian and a ruler you let Christ be your rule.
In your good example there’s a lesson we must heed;
To love our God and neighbor well in thought, word, and deed.

As students and disciples we must strive to do our best
That we can share the gifts with which our lives have been blessed.
Where ever our futures lead, whatever lies in store,
May the spirit of Saint Marg’ret be with us evermore.

Prayer

Leader:
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Let us pray as one:

All:
Good and Gracious God,
We come before you as the community of St. Margaret of Scotland,
United across households today to pray a Novena for clarity of mind and heart
during this pandemic that challenges each of us.
We ask you, O God, for support and strength,
direction and guidance,
joy and peace
as we seek to learn throughout our lives, seeking knowledge,
wisdom, and understanding.
Lead us the way we need to go, as our story unfolds before us.
Open our eyes that we might see deeply into the hearts of others.
Open our hearts that we might be filled with your love flowing out into the world.
We make this prayer, filled with hope,
through Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Reading from Awakening the Learner by Robert Marzano

Strategies for Awakening the Learner is based on the idea that all humans have four systems at work in their minds at all times. The knowledge system contains information and skills collected over time. The cognitive system includes skills that people use to solve problems, make decisions, make inferences, argue, and defend claims. The metacognitive system comes into play when a person is aware of or thinks about their own thinking. It monitors the cognitive system, and its functions include setting goas and overseeing accomplishment of those goals. The final system is the self system, which contains our beliefs, goals, and desires and helps us make decisions about what activities to engage in.

Response

Leader At dawn, fill us with your merciful love;
All we shall exult and rejoice all our days.
Leader Let your deed be seen by your servants,
All and your glorious power by their children.
Leader Let the favor of God be upon us;
All Give success to the work of our hands.
  O give success to the work of our hands.

The Word of God

Psalm 78: 1
Attend, my people, to my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth.
I will open my mouth in story, drawing lessons from of old.
We have heard them, we know them; our ancestors have recited them to us.
We do not keep them from our children; we recite them to the next generation,
The praiseworthy and mighty deeds of the LORD, the wonders that he performed.

Petitions

Leader: Christ hears and saves all who hope in him. Let us bring him our needs.
That schools – educators, students, and parents – so desperately impacted by this pandemic will find ways to overcome division and sow seeds of rich learning through lessons that abound in respect and compassion, we pray. . .

R. Lord, hear our prayer.

That those schools – educators, students, and parents – whose circumstances make them most at risk for significant loss in learning will be put first as we all learn new ways to educate our children, we pray. . .

R. Lord, hear our prayer.

That our school will foster a passion for learning and the humble quest for truth in every member of the school community, we pray…

R. Lord, hear our prayer.

That all children will retain the wonder and receptivity of infancy as they advance in the discipline of educational practice toward the integration of a rich intellectual life, we pray…

R. Lord, hear our prayer.

That children who have fallen deathly ill during this pandemic will be held tightly in God’s arms and may their families be comforted with sacred hope, we pray…

R. Lord, hear our prayer.

For whom else will you pray?

The Lord’s Prayer

Leader As one family, let us pray in the words our Savior taught us:
All Our Father…

Prayer of Saint Margaret of Scotland

Leader: Let us recall our mission as together we pray:

Loving God,
you call your people to holiness
and create among them models of kindness.
We thank you for the life of St. Margaret of Scotland:
a woman of leadership and hope in a confusing world;
a wife and mother excelling in patience, dedication and love;
a teacher supported and inspired by a life of learning;
a generous friend and a loyal servant to the poor and helpless;
a model of Christian faith and constant prayerfulness.

As we build on our faith,
help us to grow rich in the values of St. Margaret:
that faith, hope and love might inspire
our presence in the city and neighborhood,
our relationships with family and friends,
our concern for the education of the young,
our care for the poor and the weak,
our community’s prayer in word and sacrament.

Bless our parish and our school;
let it be for us a community of love and sharing,
and a source of life and grace
let it be a witness to our neighbors
of your life, your presence and your love.
Through Christ, Our Lord.
Amen.

Until tomorrow when we join in prayer again, may we each find time to learn something new and
share that new learning with someone else. AMEN
