My name is Ed Larsen, and I am in my fourth year as the Russian teacher at St. Margaret of Scotland School. I began my learning of the Russian language here at SMOS, continued through St. Louis University High School, and attended the University of Missouri-Columbia for my undergraduate studies. I have a BA in history and a minor in Russian. My capstone project focused on the ascent of Joseph Stalin to totalitarian rule of the Soviet Union.
One of the main goals of the Russian program is for students to develop a more comprehensive understanding of Russian culture. Last spring, Mr. Kieran Connolly and I were able to establish a letter-exchange program between SMOS and Helios, located in Yekaterinburg. The letter-exchange is continuing into its first full year and offers students a unique insight into the lives of their Russian peers.
