Volunteer

Volunteering is an excellent way to get involved in our school community. With a wide range of opportunities and time commitments, there is something for everyone.

Academic Events

Each year students participate in several special academic events, like the Bellarmine Speech Competition, History Day, and Science Fair. The teachers that lead up these efforts can always use a helping hand.

Field Trip Assistants

Each Classroom takes field trips.  The classroom teacher chooses a fun yet educational location.  Adult volunteers are needed to attend and transport children.  The classroom teacher will send home a request for volunteers.

Event Helpers

Volunteers are needed throughout the school year to staff the various events that take place at school or at a fundraising event. Typically, these requests come via FastDirect or the Thursday newsletter.

Grant Writing

Volunteers who are skilled in grant writing are needed to find and complete grant applications that will support or expand our education programs. If you are interested in offering your talents in this area, contact the school office at 314-776-7837.

Library Aid

St. Margaret has a school library that is typically open on Wednesday and Thursday. The library is staffed entirely by volunteers who assist the children in selecting books, reading stories and a variety of other tasks. Shifts are two hours between 8 – 3, and volunteers can come weekly, every other week, once a month – whatever fits their schedules.

 

Marketing & Development Committee

The Marketing & Development Committee is a School Board Committee that markets the school and coordinates the work and scheduling of various fundraising for the school. Please contact a member of the school board if you would like to help.

Musical and Theatrical Performances

Each year, our music program puts on several performances.   It takes many hands to make these performances happen.  Stage decorations, sound, lighting, and costumes are some of the areas that assistance is need.

Office Assistance

The school office occasionally needs assistance with preparing documents, making phone calls or other general office assistance.  If you are interested in offering your talents in this area contact the school office at 314-776-7837.

Parent Teacher Association

The PTA is a multi-purpose organization that is primarily responsible for facilitating community building and communication between faculty and parents. The PTA sponsors a host of activities for the school community and student activities.  None of these activities would be possible without the many parents, parishioners, and volunteers who generously offer their time and talent.

Playground/Cafeteria Assistance

Each full school day, the school is in need of volunteers to help in the cafeteria during lunch and playground during recess to allow our teachers more time to have lunch.

The shifts are Recess from 10:30 am to 12:20 pm and Lunch from 11:00 am to 12:45 pm. Volunteers can choose: once each week; every other week; once each month. There is always a teacher on duty with the volunteer.

Physical Plant

Just like your house, our school needs attention paid to its buildings and grounds. If you are interested in offering your talents in this area contact the school office at 314-776-7837.

Room Parents

Room parents are volunteers used in each grade to plan parties and communicate important information to the other parents. Room parents volunteers sign up at the beginning of the school year.

Safety Patrol

Volunteers are needed to assist with school drop off.  The safety of our children is of great concern to us so procedures were put in place to protect the children and to create an efficient and consistent drop-off and pick-up procedure.  You can volunteer to help as often as you like.

School Board

The purpose of the school board is to advise the Pastor during the process of reviewing and creating policies for St. Margaret of Scotland School Programs. Nominees from the school and parish communities are elected to the school board.

Extracurricular Activities

St. Margaret of Scotland is fortunate to have many amazing extracurricular activities for our students, including Scouting, Girls on the Run, Lego Robotics, and Yearbook. It takes the efforts of many volunteer hours – consider getting involved!

Athletics

The goal of the SMOS Athletic Association is to allow every boy and girl the opportunity to participate in athletics and by doing so, develop discipline and respect, build character and gain an understanding of the value of teamwork.  Volunteers are needed to be on the Athletic Association Board and to coach.

Dragon's Grove

The Dragon’s Grove garden is St. Margaret of Scotland’s school and community garden located on the northeast corner of Shaw and Lawrence. The garden provides outdoor education for students, teachers, parents, and community members. This program is currently in need of a coordinator. Technology Committee

The Technology Committee helps to integrate technology into the educational process in such a way that each student is prepared to effectively utilize computers and the Internet in their learning and to be technically literate.   If you are interested in offering your talents in this area, contact the school office at 314-776-7837.

Teacher Aides

Classroom teachers occasionally need volunteer assistance in their classroom with filing, changing bulletin boards or other classroom projects. If you are interested in offering your talents in this area contact the school office at 314-776-7837 or speak directly with your child’s teacher.

Tutoring
