Funeral Services For Corey Shorter

St. Margaret of Scotland Families:

I would like to pass some information forward about the services for Mr. Shorter. Mr. Shorter’s visitation and funeral will take place on Friday, August 22, 2025.  His visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 am.  The funeral service will take place at 11:00 am immediately following the visitation.  Please find the link to his obituary here: https://www.cottenbranchmortuary.com/obituary/mr-coery-shorter.

Because of Mr. Shorter’s impact on our community, Father Vien and I have decided to cancel school for that day – Friday, August 22, 2025.  This will allow all members of our community – teachers, students, and families – to be a part of Mr. Shorter’s funeral services should they wish to do so.

Mr. Shorter’s family is also planning on putting together a video of people speaking about Mr. Shorter.  They ask that participants send a short video (one minute or less) filmed horizontally. This video will be tributes, testimonials, and memories of Mr. Shorter.  The family asks that you submit videos by Wednesday, August 13th, to 314-745-2863.

Know that we still plan to honor Mr. Shorter as a school, but we wanted to wait for the funeral service information first.  Please stay tuned for more details on our plans at SMOS.

I hope that you continue to pray for the repose of the soul of Mr. Shorter and for healing and comfort for his family.

God Bless,

Patrick Holley

August 5, 2025

St. Margaret of Scotland Parish:

It is my heartbreaking task to inform you that our Coordinator of Inclusion, Diversity, & Equity, Mr. Corey Shorter, passed away this morning. Mr. Shorter had been an integral part of our faculty and staff, serving first as a classroom aide and then moving into the position of CIDE. He worked tirelessly to make sure that ALL students at St. Margaret are given a voice.

This is a true tragedy for our school as Mr. Shorter was universally loved and respected by his coworkers, school parents, and students. His love for our students, work ethic, and commitment to our mission were immeasurable. Mr. Shorter was an incredible educator and one of the best people I have met.

As I receive more information about Mr. Shorter’s funeral services, I will pass it on to you.

As a faith community, I ask that you pray for the repose of Mr. Shorter’s soul. I also ask that you pray for his family in their time of need. They know that our community is here to support them in any capacity. Our faith tells us that Mr. Shorter is receiving eternal life with God in Heaven. We ask that Jesus Christ comfort us as we mourn our loss.

God Bless,

Patrick Holley
