Advent Service Project – Giving Tree

Immigrant and Refugee “Get Ready For Winter” Collection

As we celebrate the season of Advent, we prepare our hearts and homes for the coming of Jesus. We are mindful of the journey Mary and Joseph made to Bethlehem. They were travelers without a place to stay.

We will be collecting winter clothing items to decorate our Advent Giving Tree in the School Cafeteria throughout the month of December as part of our school-wide Advent Service Project.

So many of our immigrant and refugee families have never experienced winter weather in St. Louis and are not prepared with the clothing and things they need to stay warm. So, we will be collecting mittens/gloves, hats, socks, and scarves. They can be new or any gently used items you may have. All items are welcome, but children’s items are especially welcome.

Please drop off your winter donation items to the school office or send into the classroom with your student(s). The items will be placed on our Advent Giving Tree. Deadline for donations is Friday, December 19.

We are also aware that the Holy Family, like so many of our own neighbors, needed shelter, food, and a warm place to live.  So many people beyond our immigrant and refugee brothers and sisters are also experiencing such great need, particularly this year.

Our St. Vincent de Paul Society’s Christmas Outreach project needs support more than ever. Last year, the goal was to raise $250 per grade.  It would be so wonderful if our school could match last year’s contributions to support our St. Vincent De Paul Society.

St. Margaret’s St. Vincent De Paul Society Christmas Outreach goal this year is $30,000.

  • Your donation of $25 will provide a Ruler Gift Card to a Neighbor in Need
  • A donation of $125 will assist a Neighbor in Need with Electric or Gas Bills
  • A donation of $250 will assist a Neighbor with their Rent Payment
  • A donation of $235 will provide a twin bed and $300 will provide a full size bed

For those of you with eligible RMD funds, this is a great tax break for you.  Full details can be found here.

The families of St. Margaret of Scotland are such a great witness for our children as you put your faith into practice with your generosity of time, talent, and treasure. We hope these two projects will help all of us to deepen our Advent journey this year as we become Christ for others.
