Speech Team Results – Final Qualifying Tournament 2024

Congratulations to the members of the SMOS Speech Team members who qualified for the final Bellarmine Speech League tournament! It was an honor for them to attend, and they performed with excellence on April 20, 2024!

Contestants in the final tournament were evaluated by 4 independent judges and received a score out of 15 points from each. Judges had the opportunity to rank and award extra points to contestants to whom they awarded a perfect score. Based on point totals, the performers were awarded one of the following: White Ribbon: 43 – 30 points; Red Ribbon: 53 – 44 points; Blue Ribbon: 59 – 54 points; Gold Ribbon: 60 points or higher; Trophy: awarded to the top 20% point earners in each category.

Duet

  • Penelope Gray (6) and Colleen Mudd (6) – Gold Ribbon
  • Daisy Herman (6) and Ryan Ohs (6) – Gold Ribbon
  • Audrey McGarry (7) and Gabriella Wimbley (7) – Trophy

Serious

  • Maddie English (5) – Blue Ribbon
  • Nora Esker (6) – Trophy
  • Nathaniel Perkins (8) – Red Ribbon

Humorous

  • Ellie Arunski (7) – Blue Ribbon
  • Margaret Barnes (8) – Trophy
  • Rowan Searcy (7) – Trophy

Those participants who receive a perfect score from and are ranked first by each judge (80 points) receive a Rosette Award. This year, Margaret Barnes was one of two contestants at the final tournament who earned a Rosette Award.  A special congratulations to Margaret!

Our team thanks Ron Knapp for judging at the final tournament, and Janel Esker and Hannah Halstead for serving as timers.  We would not have been able to attend the tournament without them! Thank you also to the middle school teachers who generously allow us to practice in their classrooms after school. Congratulations on a successful year, speech team!
