Curriculum Corner 05-02-24

Each week, we will be highlighting the amazing and wonderful things that are happening in our classrooms and grade levels at St. Margaret of Scotland School. We are very proud of the work our teachers do with our students and are amazed by what happens at SMOS. Our goal is to share more about the hidden gem that is St. Margaret’s.

Lots going on in Sixth Grade this week!

Sixth graders created cards to play an Uno-style matching game with fractions, decimals, and percentages.

Also, in 6th Grade, the students are studying the Renaissance and looking at Leonardo da Vinci’s paintings and drawings.  One of his drawings was the predecessor to the helicopter.  The classes tried their hands at making a simple one.

Students are also hard at work researching topics to prepare for class debates.

And in Science, the 6th graders just finished their unit on weather and climate and are working on a live broadcast project where they review all of the information they have learned throughout the year. Students are busy coming up with various roles and scripts, commercials, weather reports and “live” news stories to present to their peers.  They are also finishing the project they started with the Danforth Center. Students planted corn and are recording data for a published scientific paper.
