Welcome to the 2025 Walk-A-Thon!

The Walk-A-Thon is an annual SMOS fundraiser – and a cherished tradition at St. Margaret of Scotland.  And we have some big changes to announce for this year!  For the 2025-2026 school year, the Walk-A-Thon will no longer contribute to the school budget but will instead become the first annual fundraiser in support of the Mandeville Multicultural Scholarship Fund.  This scholarship fund has been established to provide assistance to minority families who are not necessarily Catholic, who live in the city, and who desire an education at St. Margaret of Scotland School. It has been maintained in varying ways in the past by contributions from parish and school families. But now, with dedicated ongoing fundraising, the hope is to extend scholarships to more students who bring diverse experiences and beliefs to SMOS, which enriches our community and helps support our mission

The good news is that the Walk-A-Thon is a fun way to raise funds.  Donations are given in exchange for the students’ walking.  Donors may choose to contribute a flat rate donation, or they may choose to sponsor a walker by pledging a certain amount of money for each loop or mile walked.

This year, another change is that the children will be walking the school campus, taking a loop around the block from Castleman to Russell (see map below).  Younger students also have the option of walking the playground as a loop.

Our fundraising goal is $20,000 to continue supporting tuition for current Mandeville scholars. If we collectively raise $50 per SMOS student, we will meet our goal. Walkers may reach out to family, friends, parishioners, and community members with the link below for donations.  All donations will help.  Donations due November 7.

Participation is optional. Typically there has been 50-60% student participation, so come on out and see your friends. Walkers may participate for any amount of time; we understand many Dragons have sports events that day.  Parents can choose to walk, visit on the playground, or volunteer.  We hope class shirts will be distributed ahead of the event, but students may wear any SMOS shirt if not.  Each student will receive one snack or drink for participating, and other snacks and drinks will be available for purchase by all.

See you Saturday, October 18, 9am-12pm at St. Margaret of Scotland School! No event registration necessary. Come check in when you arrive.
